Cybot is proud to provide our cookie service to over 5,000 websites for customers in over 20 countries. To date, Cookiebot has handled more than 100 million user consents in more than 40 languages across all industries and company sizes.
We would like to extend our gratitude to our customers, resellers and business partners for their overwhelmingly positive feedback – we are happy to help even more businesses comply with the statutory information on cookies and handling of user consents.
On 25 May 2018, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) entered into force in the EU, determining how companies may handle personal data, including cookies. It requires consent from website visitors before using cookies or similar tracking technologies that enable personal identification, either directly or indirectly.
It also requires the ability to document user consents. Cookiebot allows you to comply with all of the act’s relevant requirements of consent, and in order to help you document users’ cookie consents, we have launched a feature that enables downloading all consents in a spreadsheet from the consents overview in Cookiebot.
As a website operator, you have 24 months to comply with the personal data regulations. The requirements are aimed at all websites that have visitors from the EU, even if the website is operated outside of the EU.
The type of cookies that intrude on user’s privacy the most are typically used by third parties that provide various embedded services on your website, and it can be very difficult to determine who is tracking what.
An extensive survey made at Princeton shows that embedded services from Google and Facebook by far represent the majority of monitoring on the internet, however there is a whole host of other companies that also carry out the same activities. Cookiebot contributes to transparency compiling a scan report for your website each month.
The internal report does not only show what cookies are used, but also, if possible, what specific embedded elements are inserting what cookies. Look for "initiator" details in your next scan report.
By default, Cookiebot’s consent banner is shown to all website visitors, regardless of where they are located in the world. For a long time, it has been possible to restrict the display to only cover users in the EU.
Now you are given the opportunity to target the banner display further: Cookiebot gives you the possibility to select exactly for which countries and/or regions in the world the banner should be displayed. You can find out how to do this under the "Distribution" section in the "Dialog" tab in Cookiebot.
Of all the new features since last time, we would like to highlight a new standard banner type, "Push down", that does not overlap with the content on your website, but rather pushes it while the consent banner is displayed at the top.
